Not sure what spare bedrooms have to do with housing affordability? My parents now have a spare bedroom, and my grandmother has two! My best mate and his wife have a spare bedroom (although, it won't be "spare" for much longer!).

I share the concern about major cities in gridlock due to folk driving cars with only the driver. Many of these folk could easily take public transport for the majority of their journey, if only public transport services were better. Alas some of our governments seem more intent on spending public funds on roads rather than public transport.

NB: The actual gridlock, by the definition of the term, is alive and well in Melbourne. Why are drivers so selfish that they need to drive into an intersection that they can't clear on the other side? A huge problem area is the corner of Flinders & Swanston Streets in the city on a Friday night, particularly when the footy's on at the MCG - the trams end up delayed there because of it.
