Java is dead. Ruby has killed it.
Now after a reality check, actually it's JavaScript killed Ruby. Java is going to be here forever and ever ... ....

If anything the JVM (not Java) killed Ruby. What did all those shops who moved off Ruby move to again?

Interestingly the vibe I got last night at the Ng meet up was that not too many people are impressed with Ng 2. So it to might be dead ;)

Java is dead to you if you stop programming in Java.
Java is dead to me if I stop using apps made in Java.
Java itself is not dead because, as Cobol has proven, people will continue to use it for decades beyond its mainstream adoption.
